Unmonetisable me
The other week I sent this to premium subscribers to 10andahalf cafes...
hello
You are 1 of 10 people who’ve kindly signed up for the premium version of this newsletter. That means you’ve paid either £3 or £6 so far, which is very generous of you. And it’s too much for what you’re getting, which so far, is nothing.
The problem is that delivering you £3 worth of subscription value seems to be stopping me writing. I do a draft, look at it, ask myself ‘is that worth £3 of someone’s money’ and answer ‘no’. Of course not. So I don’t send anything. I’m not cut out for this subscription content business.
So, I’m going to cancel the premium version of this thing, return you to the regular tier and, if I can, refund your money. I’ll confess I’m not 100% sure how to do this so you might get some confusing emails. And if I can’t make refunds work I’ll buy you a coffee/beer/cake/gluten-free alternative next time I see you. Or I can send it via PayPal. Let me know if you’d prefer that.
AND I still have your emails so I still plan to send you two pieces of exclusive, high-quality, premium content to you and you alone. It just won’t be by the end of January.
Sorry about this faff. Huge thank you for the support and understanding.
Hopefully, you’ll get a bunch of emails soon…
I sent their first bit of writing yesterday. There's not a lot of it.
I don't think I'm cut out for subscription business models. I can generate a lot of stuff but I find it hard to think of it as valuable, I need the reassurance of a 'gatekeeper' to do that.
