This post is for everyone asking about migrating from Typepad to Ghost. It is not in the archive so it will disappear when Typepad disappears. (I will put a copy of it on Ghost, too, for the record.)

  1. I do not know how to migrate a blog from Typepad to Ghost. I've not encountered anyone who does.
  2. Instead, there is now a static archive of what was on Typepad. And I'm going to start a new blog on Ghost. (Phil very kindly built that archive for me, he's detailed how he did it. It is a downloaded copy of everything that was on Typepad, reuploaded to my own server)
  3. As far as I can tell the export function Typepad tells you to use doesn't work.
  4. I approached Ghost's Concierge service to see if they could help.Their promise is "Switch to Ghost, with help from our concierge team. We'll help migrate your content, newsletters, members and payments. For free."

The reality seems to be that they'll do that if it's economically worthwhile to them. Which is fair enough, but not really what they say.

They declined to help and added: "this is more of a resource blocker on our side, rather than a technical one." ie they could do it if they wanted to do but it's not worth it.

They pointed at their experts directory and suggested someone there might help.
  5. Hope that helps. Good luck everyone!
